EA on War and Politics 24: Dealing with Witkoff and Kushner in the Kremlin

I joined Indian outlets on Thursday and Friday to analyze Vladimir Putin’s two-day trip to India.

I cut through the puffery about ceremony, honors, and general agreements to assess the significance of Putin’s talk with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While India is highlighting the potential of trade, investment, and technology arrangements, Modi is subtly letting Putin know that these depend on Russia curbing its 46-month full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

But Putin has told Indian outlets that he will not ceasefire without seizing more Ukrainian territory through negotiation or force.

So does India reinforce the message behind the cermonial scenes?
