EA on TVP World: Ukraine, Europe, and Trump — The Showdown Over Security Guarantees
I joined Ukraine’s War and Politics 24 for an end-of-year special about the state of Kyiv’s resistance of Russia’s invasion.
I begin the 31-minute discussion with a glimmer of light from the Ukraine-Europe proposals to halt Moscow’s assault, including US participation in security guarantees for Kyiv and the sanctions if Russia does not accept the documents.
But I also go through a New York Times exposé of a year of division and damage from the Trump Administration, beginning with Vice President J.D. Vance’s leadership of an “anti-Ukraine” faction that threatened to cut all assistance to Kyiv. Can the group be checked by those within the Administration seeing the necessity of Ukrainian and European security?
Or will Vance and his allies help bail out Vladimir Putin, who overplayed his hand and lost the opportunity handed to him for Ukraine’s capitulation? I look at how the Russian leader, pitting his advisors against each other, undid his schemes to seize more Ukrainian territory and break the country.
