EA-Irish Times Podcast: Why Trump Retreated Over Epstein Files
I joined DW News on Thursday to analyze the latest development around Donald Trump and the late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, the release of photos of Epstein’s home on a private island in the US Virgin Islands.
I explain that the release, by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, adds no substantive information over the crimes of Epstein and other powerful men — and of any connection to Trump.
However, the disclosure keeps the Epstein story in the news cycle and maintains pressure on Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi to release Epstein’s criminal case files by a December 19 deadline.
I also evaluate Trump’s handling of the affair and its potential damage to him.
Trump’s tactical mistake was, through Attorney General Pam Bondi, to promise the files to his supporters in February — and then go back on that promise.
Many of his supporters feel betrayed and alienated. In a wider sense, it portrayed a President running away from the truth.
