EA on DW News: Trump’s Tariff Tantrum v. Canada

In a 25-minute VideoCast, I joined Times Radio’s Maddie Hale on Monday for a deep dive into Donald Trump’s latest threats and chaos from Venezeula to China.

I explain how the Trump Administration, propelled by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, is pursuing “regime change” to topple Venezuela’s Maduro Government on the pretext of operations against drug smuggling. I describe how this now includes the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford and its battle group, at least other warships, and 10,000 Marines, sailors, and troops.

I analyze why the Administration has backed down for now from Trump’s threat of an additional 100% tariff on China, just before his meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping in South Korea.

I update on the Government shutdown and its consequences. And I cut to the chase about the failure of Republicans in Congress, apart from isolated cases such as Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Thomas Massie, to stand up against the man in the White House.

Paul and Massie are lone voices right now. Donald Trump is not going to be stopped by anyone in Congress until the Republicans get a bit of backbone.
