EA on TVP World: Trump’s Latest Chaos Over Ukraine
I joined Maddie Hale in Times Radio’s studios on Monday for a 45-minute special on facing Donald Trump: from his retreat on support for Ukraine’s defense to his assault on freedom and rights in the US, including his crude assault on last Saturday’s “No Kings” marches across the country.
I go into detail on last Friday’s White House meeting between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, considering Trump’s retreat on supply of Tomahawk missiles for Kyiv and his amplifying of the Kremlin’s demand for more Ukrainian territory.
I look at the causes of the scuttle, from Vladimir Putin’s call to Trump on Thursday to the presence in the meeting of Trump’s envoy, real estate developer Steve Witkoff.
I emphasize the wider context beyond the meeting to emphasize that the support of those beyond Trump has not necessarily been lost. I consider other military, economic, and political negotiations, and forecast the response of Zelensky and his European partners.
Then I evaluate Trump’s foul response to more than 7 million Americans who rallies on Saturday to challenge corruption and authoritarianism. I explain why the AI video of “King” Trump in a fighter jet, dropping feces on the marchers, is a sign of his weakness — and perhaps “scrambled” decline — than strength.
This is why people get it wrong in predicting what will happen in the next year.
America is 50 states. And you have all these stories from those states in many different cities and towns. That means Trump can’t have it his own way, ruling from Washington.
