I joined Australia’s ABC News on Monday as 10 more states — including Australia, the UK, France, Canada, France, Belgium, and Portugal — recognize the State of Palestine.

Listen to Discussion from 10:27

While the step will not halt the Netanyahu Government’s mass killing in Gaza, let alone foster a ceasefire, it is a powerful symbolic step. I explain how it redefines Israel’s expanding military operation, including the overrunning of Gaza City and establishment of long-term occupation of the Strip, and how it sets the terms for discussions on a two-state resolution when/if the Israeli attacks stop.

I look at how Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Trump Administration might retaliate, and how the international community can prepare itself for next steps.

Where do we go to set the conditions to check people being killed or starved to death on a daily basis?

How do we get to resolution in Gaza where you have a State of Palestine but Hamas is not in power? Where is the Palestinian governance going to come from?

How do you prevent Israel from annexing the West Bank?
