UPDATE, AUG 23:
I returned to India’s News 9 on Friday as the Trump Administration continues to attack the Indian Government amid the imposition of 50% tariffs.
I discuss the latest assault by Trump’s advisor Peter Navarro. I explain how it has less to do with Indian purchases of Russian oil than with the Administration’s “warrior protectionism” and attempt to bully India into economic concessions.
The other panellists, Ambassador Deepak Vohra and Dr. Rajan Kumar, also highlight the tactics of the Administration and the economic illiteracy of Donald Trump. They advocate, in contrast to the frameworks agreed by the European Union and Japan with Washington, resistance of US demands.

UPDATE, AUG 8:
Donald Trump has raised his tariff on India from 25% to 50%, citing its purchases of Russian oil amid Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
Joining a panel on India’s News 9 on Thursday, I separate reality from Trumpian bluster. I explain how the reality TV star caused the current crisis by sabotaging trade talks that were near a deal, how he was upset that Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi did not call him, and how he is now reverting to his long-time bullying tactics.
The discussion also considers India’s responses, from a firm rejection of Trump’s pressure to pursuit of alternative trading relationships.
The other panellists are journalist Shweta Kothari and Ambassadors Jayant Das Gupta and Deepak Vohra. The host is Kartikaya Sharma.
UPDATE, AUG 1: On Thursday, Donald Trump trashed India — soon to be the world’s third-largest economic power — as a “dead economy” as he declared a 25% tariff on Indian exports to the US.
I joined a panel on India’s News 9 to take apart Trump’s bullying of a supposed ally. I assessed the damage to US-Indian relations, and consider how India will be part of a global realignment bypassing Washington.
The other panellists are Ambassador Veena Sikri and journalist Ajit K Jha.
