EA on BBC and WION: Will Trump Back Ukraine’s Resistance v. Russia?

I joined Dublin NewsTalk’s Pat Kenny Show on Monday for a 15-minute deep dive into the latest chaos and threats of the Trump Administration.

I begin with Donald Trump’s shift — for now — to support of Ukraine against Russia’s 40 1/2-month full-scale invasion. I outline how, with his vision of a Nobel Peace Prize dashed, he is frustrated with Vladimir Putin. I describe the immediate effect of US-made Patriot air defense systems being sent to Ukraine, and consider whether Trump might agree to the despatch of long-range missiles that could strike inside Russia.

He realized he wasn’t going to get the Nobel Peace Prize. Putin has no intention to compromise over his desire to conquer Ukraine.

At some point, Trump has to realize, “I’m not going to get anywhere with this guy.”

I walk through Trump’s 50% tariff on Brazil, trying to end the prosecution of former President Jair Bolsonaro for a coup attempt.

I describe the inhumanity of Trump’s “Alligator Alcatraz”. I explain how it is a symbol of an Administration that now has no respect for law, rights, or Congress in its detentions, abuses, and disappearances of migrants and asylum seekers.

And, while explaining that Trump’s political fate probably rests on the state of the US economy, I describe the split among his supporters over the Administration’s refusal to release the files of the late Jeffrey Epstein.
