Trump’s Approach to Ukraine-Russia Hasn’t Changed That Much

I joined Poland’s TVP World on Wednesday to evaluate if Donald Trump’s rhetorical shift over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a serious move to support Kyiv or just a political stunt.

In the 11-minute analysis, I take apart Trump’s vague declarations and unpredictable behavior. I look beyond him to other Administration officials, and ask whether Ukraine and its European partners can work with them to ensure the provision of effective weapons and sanctions on Moscow.

For Donald Trump, this is personal. He is frustrated with Vladimir Putin. With no prospect of a resolution because of Russian attacks and ultimata, he gets angry.

But Trump is speaking off the top of his head. There are some officials, such as his envoy Keith Kellogg, who are talking with Ukraine and Europe about what Kyiv needs.
