Donald Trump’s son Eric promoting the Trump 2028 hat
EA on International Media: The Awful 1st 100 Days of Trump 2.0
I spoke with Dublin NewsTalk’s Andrea Gilligan on Monday about Donald Trump’s grift, selling overpriced merchandise both to make some money and to promote the unrealistic idea of a third term in the White House.
I set his “Trump 2028” site in the context of a man covering up his business failure with bombastic self-promotion, from The Apprentice to the World Wrestling Federation to social media.
And I explain the financial violations and the conflicts of interest, culminating in Trump’s pitching of his crypto-currency in a White House gathering last week.
Donald Trump is not just trying to “rewrite the rules”, he is trying to establish an authoritarian government: breaking US agencies, breaking the courts, breaking universities, breaking media where no one can check his power.
Part of the merchandising is to justify that effort. And part of it is to distract us, to keep talking about these slogans when the reality is that, less than 100 days in office, Trump is in serious trouble.
