I joined Alexis Conran and former MP Lembit Opik of talkRADIO on Saturday for our weekly review of the adventures in TrumpLand.
This week’s sometimes-irreverent 15-minute journey explains why the US missile strikes on Syria have already receded into the distance.
When a guy tweets three days before the strikes, “Hey, we’re sending over our shiny new missiles”, that’s a tip to how he’s operating. He’s got no clue about the 7-year conflict, so he says, “I’ve done my bit. They saw our shiny missiles. Mission Accomplished.”
There’s a return to the perpetual of the Trump-Russia investigation, with a glance at Moscow, WikiLeaks, and Trump’s associates before explaining the latest in the drama of whether Donald Trump will fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller.
And we cast a sceptical eye on whether Trump really has the advantage over North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un and whether the two men will ever meet — closing with the appropriate reference to the film Team America.
Scott, you should be happy. The Deep State is now in control of Trump’s foreign policy……. propaganda, death, and destruction.
Please define Deep State. Trump doesn’t even have the respect of more than 30% of the population, and now the Deep State, whatever that is, is controlling the USA?
The Deep State’s home base in Beacon Global Strategies. Disguised as a privately held company. Most likely funded by AIPAC. Many of the Deep State actors were at Warmonger in Chief, John McCain’s Sedona Conference this past week.
The Deep State is now in control of Trump’s foreign policy. Netanyahu promised Obama that he would not attack Iran. With the Deep State now in charge, that promise holds no value.
Yes, it must be maddening to see such a double standard. It is always curious to see the people who condemn Saudi Arabia’s crimes in Yemen arguing that Assad is conducting a “kid-gloves” operation against “terrorism” and vice versa.
For the record though, North Korea is truly reprehensible. China, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain are mostly in the same unpleasant camp. Israel is not quite there, because they still adhere to legal principles in their suppression of Palestinians, although they are moving in the wrong direction.
The western democracies are routinely better, although certainly not perfect.
Israel is not quite there, because they still adhere to legal principles in their suppression of Palestinians, although they are moving in the wrong direction.
You do know that the Israelis recently fired upon a peaceful Palestinian protest on the border with Gaza, injuring over 1,000 and killing scores? How was that “legal” under international law?
“It is always curious to see the people who condemn Saudi Arabia’s crimes in Yemen arguing that Assad is conducting a “kid-gloves” operation against “terrorism” and vice versa.”
Saudi Arabia is trying to bomb Yemen into submission to its dictator and preventing the formation of an inclusive government. Iran and Russia, conversely, are helping the Syrian government rid itself of militant groups like Jabhar-al-Nusra and ISIS that threaten then very survival of the Syrian state and who cannot be considered part of any future democratic opposition. You can question some of the methods and tactics used to fight these groups (like airstrikes on urban areas where they are holed up), but the goal of defeating them is necessary and just.
That was legal because the crowd was attacking the demarkation fence, and was also throwing rocks at IDF soldiers. What would you do if your enemy throws rocks at your soldiers, despite days of warnings? You shoot. Funny how you demand special treatment for the Palestinians because Israelis are Jews?
Comparing Syria to Yemen is like comparing the Falkland war to WWII. False equivalency.
Firing 800 live rounds into a crowd of protesters is not legal under the law of any civilized country.
These protesters are the enemies of Israel, according to Hamas, and by and large they are terrorists. They were warned that IDF will shoot. Since they are so stupid not to be able to read the fliers given to them, they will get hurt. What do you expect?
Protesters demanding the right to return to their homes are not “terrorists” and don’t deserve to be fired upon.
U.S. calls China, Russia, Iran, North Korea ‘morally reprehensible’ on rights: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-rights/u-s-calls-china-russia-iran-north-korea-morally-reprehensible-on-rights-idUSKBN1HR2M8
“The United States labeled China, Russia, Iran and North Korea on Friday as “morally reprehensible” governments that it said violated human rights within their borders on a daily basis, making them “forces of instability”.
The report does not make any mention of rights abuses by Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Bahrain. It also doesn’t criticise Israel for its brutal repression of Palestinians in the Gaza, Negev and West Bank. The State Department, as a rule, also does not criticise rights abuses at home even though many groups have identified gross abuses of and discrimination against the poor and minorities in the country. U.S authorities have also been cracking down on environmentalist activists like Tim DeChristopher who was jailed for his activism.
The State Department has been calling out Saudi Arabia and other friendly countries for years now. Why lie? And the State Dept. mandate is foreign countries and not the US.
