Donald Trump continued his tour to project Presidential authority on Wednesday, moving to Las Vegas after Tuesday in hurricane-stricken Puerto Rico.

I assessed his attempt on Wednesday night in a conversation with Monocle 24’s The Daily, comparing Trump to predecessors like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush and noting why Trump’s effort has already stumbled.

He didn’t do anything horribly wrong and tear the place up, in contrast to Puerto Rico, which was marked by some rather unusual incidents….He stuck very closely to his script today.

The chat also touches on gun control after the mass killings early Monday in Las Vegas — “Let’s be honest, that’s never going to happen” — and how the US media has moved on to stories such as Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s labelling of Trump as a “moron”.
