I spoke with Monocle 24’s The Briefing and Austria’s Radio FM4 on Friday amid the latest developments in the Trump-Russia inquiry: the Special Counsel’s confirmation of the investigation of Donald Trump; the examination of the business affairs of son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner; and the retention of an outside lawyer by Vice President Mike Pence.

If Donald Trump is in a poker game, and he has two choices — fold a bad hand or double the bet — he does the latter.

And this is a bad hand.

The conversation with Radio FM4’s Riem Higazi also considers the Trump announcement rolling back Barack Obama’s engagement with Cuba: what’s the political game — Trump’s wish to remove all Obama initiatives in foreign and domestic policy, playing up to Republican legislators, or jump trying to sweep away the Russia headlines?
