Another far-from-normal Tuesday in Washington began with the revelation that Donald Trump is considering the dismissal of Robert Mueller, the special counsel for the Trump-Russia inquiry, and continued with the attempt of Attorney General Jeff Sessions to tell the Senate Intelligence Committee that any suggestion of improper behaviour is a “detestable lie”.

Speaking with Monocle 24’s The Daily as Sessions was concluding his testimony, I put the developments in perspective:

Trump is angry. He’s frustrated. He’s nervous.

What we’re seeing is an attempt to stonewall. Whether the Trump Administration can continue to hold the line, we’ll see. We’re only in the early stages of what is going to be a long summer.
