US Podcast: Trump’s Crackdown on Immigrants
Explaining the Trump Administration’s “sledgehammer to crack a nut” approach to undocumented immigration
As the Department of Homeland Security published guidelines under which almost all of the 11 million immigrants in the US are subject to deportation, I spoke with Julia Hartley-Brewer of Talk Radio about the Trump Administration and the crackdown.
What Obama tried to do was get order in the immigration system.
What Trump’s doing is not installing order. He’s saying, “Let’s go wholesale and ensure certain categories of immigrants can be chucked out regardless of outstanding legal cases.”
He’s not trying to get back to a sensible position on immigration, and 11 million people are now in limbo with no legal recourse.
The guidelines not only might violate international laws, but also raise the question of relationships with other countries like Mexico.
