Daniella Peled of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting and I joined Monocle 24’s The Globalist on Tuesday morning to discuss the crisis in eastern Aleppo city, with rebels and civilians enduring siege, bombing, and a pro-Assad ground assault that has taken about 1/3 of the area since Saturday.

The US, other countries, and UN have followed the Russian lead for a mythical “political process” and have not been able to get aid into the area….
Fundamentally, we’re not talking — as Vladimir Putin portrays this — about an evil, foreign-led force trying to overthrow Assad. Let’s be clear about this: the Russian have spread disinformation for years to say there are no good people opposing Assad.
And the Russian have lied. They have not intervened to stop the Islamic State: more than 90% of civilian deaths since September 2015 have been caused by Russia and the Assad regime.
