President Rouhani was in an optimistic mood on Thursday in France, as he hailed more billion-dollar deals following business and investment agreements in Italy.

But is Rouhani on the way to a lasting triumph with an Iranian economic recovery, or are there even greater challenges with regime in-fighting — including a looming confrontation with the Supreme Leader — and regional crises such as the Syrian conflict?

I joined Monocle 24’s The Daily on Thursday for a discussion of the issues.
