Rami Jarrah of the pro-opposition ANA Press reports on life during the holy month of Ramadan in a rebel-held area of Aleppo, Syria’s largest city.

A tailor in a market hands out gifts of clothing and says, “The market is going well, but our problem is electricity…and water.”

A woman is downbeat when asked what she is buying her children for Eid, the celebration at the end of the month:

Where is Eid? We don’t have Eid here. Can’t you see what is happening?

Another woman explains, “Diesel fuel has gone up. Prices of goods have gone up. They [the merchants] are taking advantage of the situation.”

The reason for the fuel shortage? A diesel seller says it is because the Islamic State controls the supply.
