Children in schools in opposition-held areas near Syria’s capital Damascus are going to school at 6:30 a.m., to minimize the risk of death from regime airstrikes, Syria Direct reports.

The decision was made in early February by the East Ghouta School Board.

The early start is not enough to escape danger, however. Video on Tuesday show students being hurried into the basement of a local school in the town of Deir al-Asafir after two regime bombs on a neighboring building. The elementary school was damaged, with two students killed and others injured.

Deir al-Asafir, between regime- and rebel-held positions, suffers regime strikes almost daily.

The state of emergency is not limited to schools. Health clinics in Douma are limiting their operating hours from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
