LATEST: Clashes and Unrest in West Bank

Israeli forces have arrested several family members of Palestinians accused of two separate stabbing attacks on Monday.

An Israeli soldier died in hospital of his injuries after an attack at a Tel Aviv train station. Later, a woman was killed and two other people wounded outside an Israeli Jewish settlement in the West Bank.

Those arrested include the father and several brothers of Nur al-Din Abu Hashiyeh, accused of the murder of the soldier. The family was reportedly preparing to move out of their home in Nablus in the West Bank, anticipating its demolition — standard retribution for Palestinians accused of serious crimes — by Israeli forces.

In an interview before his arrest, the elder Abu Hashiyeh, a Fatah official, said that he was surprised to hear that his son was involved in the attack.

Palestinian sources reported detentions of the family members of Maher Hamdi al-Hashalmoun, the suspect in the West Bank stabbings.

Hashalmoun allegedly tried to ram his car into the group at a bus stop outside the settlement before leaving the vehicle and attacking with a knife. He was then shot to death by a guard on duty at the site

Claimed video of the attack:

Following a third attempted attack in Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehuda Market, the elite Golani Brigade of the Israel Defense Forces deployed throughout the West Bank this morning, while the Minister of Public Security called up several reserve battalions of the Border Police.

Amid Israeli intelligence reports of a “very large terror attack” which may be planned by Hamas, the Netanyahu Government is reportedly considering the imposition of a full closure of the West Bank, preventing Arabs from entering Israel.

Clashes and Unrest in West Bank

Clashes and unrest continued in the West Bank on Monday, with the wounding of two Palestinians in a confrontation with Israeli soldiers east of Nablus.

Trouble was reported south of Nablus in Burin; in Husan, several km west of Bethlehem; and in the Aroub refugee camp north of Hebron.

This morning, thousands of Palestinians have gathered in Ramallah to commemorate Yasser Arafat, who died 10 years ago today. A similar rally in Gaza was cancelled due to security concerns between Hamas and Fatah.
