Two people were killed and nine were injured on Saturday night when security forces dispersed hundreds of demonstrators near Tahrir Square in central Cairo, according to the Health Ministry.

About 3,000 protesters gathered after a court dropped almost all charges against former President Hosni Mubarak, including allegations that he was involved in the killing of hundreds of people during the 2011 uprising.

Security forces fired water cannons at protesters then tear gas and bird shot. Tanks also moved on the protesters in Abdel-Moneim Riad Square near Tahrir.

The Director of Security for Cairo Governorate said police arrested 85 demonstrators.

Mubarak, former Interior Minister Habib El-Adly, and four top security chiefs were cleared on Saturday of the killing of people during the protests that toppled the President in February 2011.

Mubarak, his sons Alaa and Gamal, and businessman Hussein Salem were also acquitted of corruption charges related to the export of natural gas to Israel at below-market prices.
