LATEST: Lebanese Forces Detain 50 in Crackdown After Tripoli Violence

Scores of displaced Syrians have been killed by regime barrel-bombing of the Abedin camp in Idlib Province in northwest Syria.

The two bombs struck Wednesday afternoon, dismembering and burning bodies.

Residents and activists spoke of up to 75 people killed, with many more wounded. Most of those in the camp had fled from fighting in neighboring Hama Province.

The Local Coordination Committees, documenting 100 deaths across Syria on Wednesday, said it had confirmed 49 victims in the camp.

Graphic video posted online showed the dead as a man said, “It’s a massacre of refugees.”

Let the whole world see this, they are displaced people. Look at them, they are civilians, displaced civilians. They fled the bombardment.

The US condemned the bombings. “The attack on the Abedin camp was nothing short of barbaric,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. “Unfortunately, if it is confirmed to be the work of the [Assad] regime, it is only the latest act of brutality by the regime against its own people.”

Insurgent Factions Trade Blame Over In-Fighting in Idlib Province

The insurgent factions Jabhat al-Nusra and the Syrian Revolutionary Front traded blame on Wednesday over the infighting that took attention away from the opposition offensive against Idlib city in northwest Syria.

Insurgents had taken the checkpoints around Idlib and briefly occupied key positions such as the Governor’s building on Monday. However, Jabhat al-Nusra accused the SRF of standing aside as other brigades fought, and the SRF clashes with local elements of Jabhat al-Nusra in other towns in Idlib Province.

In an online statement, Jabhat al-Nusra accused the SRF of attacking. The head of the SRF, Jamal Maarouf, responded with an accusation that the Islamist faction had not only started the fight but had also refused mediation to end it, thus diverting attention from the rising against the “unjust system” of the Assad regime.

Ahrar al-Sham, another prominent faction in the insurgency in the northwest, called for an immediate ceasefire by both sides and recourse to a Sharia court for a decision on their dispute.
