Just before his trip to the UN General Assembly in New York, President Rouhani spends an hour with US NBC Television….

After general talk about the need for “security, serenity, stability, and peaceful co-existence”, Rouhani — like his Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif — shows his concern with Iran’s position in Iraq.

The President gets tough with the US, declaring that its pursuit of a coalition against the Islamic State is “ridiculous”.

Rouhani also proclaims the legitimacy of Syria’s Assad regime and says, “The question is who, during the past three years, supported the terrorists?”, using the Islamic State to link the Iraqi and Syrian cases: “Terrorism is terrorism, either here or there.”
