LATEST: Video — Friday’s Demonstration in Insurgent-Held Salaheddin Section of Aleppo

Days after the loss of a major military bases and pressure on its most important airports, the Assad regime is still keeping quiet.

This week the jihadist Islamic State quickly overran the Regiment 93 base near Raqqa in northern Syria, following up its capture of the Regiment 121 base and leaving the regime with only one significant position — the Taqba airbase — in Raqqa Province.

Insurgents have moved within a few kilometers of Hama Military Airport, firing rockets into the complex, and Hama city in central Syria. Near the capital, they have moved towards Damascus International Airport, hoping to cut highways and put pressure on operations such as the transport of foreign fighters and Iranian weapons and supplies.

However, State media have made no reference to the fall of Brigade 93, or indeed any conflict in Raqqa.. State news agency SANA’s depiction of the fighting near Damascus is limited this morning is limited to “army units targeted terrorists in Drousha area, Nastle and al-Fusol al-Araba’a (Four Seasons) Streets and medicine factory in Damascus countryside, killing and wounding a number of terrorists and destroying their criminal tools”.

There is no repetition in SANA today of last week’s proclamations by military leaders, for Army Day, that “victory is near”.
