Canadian journalists Shannon Gormley and Drew Gough, based in Istanbul, have set up the “If We Were Syrian” campaign to highlight the impact of Syria’s 39-month conflict on civilians.

The campaign makes its point by outlining equivalent destruction in Western nations: “If Canada were Syria, every person living in Sudbury, Ontario would have been killed. Every Single Person. That’s 160,000: all gone.”

Gormley and Gough hope to encourage those in the US, UK, Canada, Japan, France, Germany, and Italy to write to local politicians and officials, delivering aid inside Syria and open borders to refugees.
