Footage: Refugees Wait On The Syrian-Jordanian border

As Human Rights Watch warned on Sunday that border crossings into Jordan, Iraq and Turkey have been closed to Syrians attempting to flee the violence, amateur video shot by activists documents a small part of the growing humanitarian crisis on Syria’s borders.

More than 500,000 Syrian refugees are currently in Jordan, of whom 150,000 live in the Zaatari camp near the border with Syria.

This footage, posted on Sunday, shows Free Syrian Army fighters monitoring Syrian refugees who are waiting to see if they will be granted entry into Jordan. Though Amman has denied closing its borders, activists say the Kingdom — fearing the violence could spill over into its borders — has begun denying entry to Palestinians, men of military age, or anyone without identity papers.

A mother explains why she is seeking refuge in Jordan. She says the Syrian people are in a crisis, and children do not know why they are fleeing their homes.

This short video, filmed about two weeks ago, shows Syrians camped out along the Jordanian border:

Posted on 10 June by pro-regime activists, footage of large numbers of refugees — including many children — on the Syrian side of the border.

Syrians being refused entry into Jordan:

Last month a Syrian was shot dead as he attempted to cross into Jordan. Officials in the Jordanian army said the shooting happened after Syrian refugees attacked a border guard.

This video (warning — graphic images), posted in May, purports to show Jordanian guards firing at Syrian refugees.
